About Laser Hair Removal Treatments

How does laser hair removal work?

During the treatment, the laser emits a beam of light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair.

This light energy is converted to heat which damages the hair follicles within the skin that produce individual hairs. This damage retards future hair growth.

Who is suitable for laser hair reduction treatment?

Our laser hair treatment is suitable for all skin types.

It is most effective for dark, thick hair and less effective for blonde or grey hair as there is less pigment in the hair for the laser to target. This doesn’t mean fair hair can’t be treated – it just takes longer.

Which areas of the body are suitable for laser hair removal?

The treatment is suitable for women and men, and across the entire body including sensitive areas such as the face and bikini line.

Legs, underarm, chest, back, arms, neck, buttocks and nipple hair are also suitable for treatment.

Banish ingrowing hairs

If you suffer with unsightly ingrowing hairs then laser treatments gets to the root, literally, of the problem by removing the complete hair. We can’t recommend it enough if you’re plagued with itchy, irritated skin caused by waxing or shaving.

Laser hair treatments and the sun

For best results avoid sun exposure to the treatment area for four weeks prior to your appointment as it can make the treatment less effective and increase the chances of an adverse reaction.

You need to avoid sun between treatments, and for a short period afterwards, so please chat through any holiday dates at your initial consultation so we can work around these.

What to expect at your laser removal treatment

Initial consultation and patch test

We start with an initial consultation to examine the treatment area, ensure the treatment is suitable for you, and answer all your questions.

Initial consultations are £50 but this fee is redeemable against any course of Laser Hair Removal treatments booked.

For your safety and wellbeing we also carry out a patch test at this consultation (please ensure there is some hair visible at the treatment area so we can do this).

Your laser hair appointment

Your first treatment can take place 7 days after your patch test. Please make sure you shave the day before your treatment. Don’t shave immediately before your appointment as this may increase the chance of inflammation or swelling.

Do not wax, pluck, thread or use hair removal cream either before your first appointment or between laser hair removal appointments as it temporarily removes the hair meaning it cannot be targeted by the laser.

The treatment is relatively comfortable, although it varies with each client. It has been likened to a rubber band snapping against the skin or a pinprick. If you’re used to waxing then you should be fine.

Your appointment will last 10-60 minutes depending on areas being treated. A small area, like the underarm will take less than five minutes.

You may experience a little redness in the treated area which usually fades quickly, and downtime is minimal. We apply a cool, soothing lotion before you leave us.

Post laser hair removal treatment

Avoid hot baths or showers, saunas, swimming pools, steam rooms and exercise for 48 hours after each treatment.

Sunscreen SPF 30+ must be used between treatments, and for at least one month after the final treatment, to avoid sunburn and hyper-pigmentation of the treated area.

How many sessions are needed?

Hairs begin to fall out within 5-14 days of your first session and may continue to do so for weeks.

It varies between clients, but on average 6 to 10 treatments are needed. Hair grows and rests in cycles so at any one appointment individual hairs are in different stages of their growth cycle. Only hairs that are actively growing at the time of the treatment are successfully treated. So multiple treatments are needed.
