Calm over the horizon

Many years ago, I worked for my parents who own a video production company. Because it is a family business, you inevitably end up wearing many hats and being the czar of many different jobs. I mainly managed projects and worked as a video editor. On production, there were times that I was called on to work as an audio tech and was made to wear headphones on long production days. In those days, having a really good set of headphones that picked up every nuance of sound was essential to making sure the client got what they needed.

First impressions.

Naturally, my first impression of these headphones is based off of the look of them. They have a classic over-the-ear style that is highlighted by a blue LED light that indicates the power for the noise canceling. The padding on the ear pieces seems adequate for extended usage periods.

They are wired headphones, but the 3.5mm stereo mini-plug cable is detachable. Something else I noticed right of the bat was the very nice carrying case that comes with them. It has a hard plastic exterior with a soft cloth interior that helps to protect the surface of the headphones from scratches. I never truly appreciated cases for headphones until I started carrying them from place-to-place. Now I can’t imagine not having a case.

A perfect fit.

Once I gave the headphones a thorough once-over exam, I tried them on. As I mentioned, they have a classic over-the-ear style and just looking at them, the padding on the ear pieces seem adequate and the peak of the headband seemed to be a bit lacking, but you don’t really know comfort unless you try on the product. So, I slipped the headphones on and found them to be exquisitely comfortable.

Quality.

Now that I had the headphones on my head, I was finally ready to plug and play some music. I plugged the provided cable into the jack on the headphones and then the one on my iPhone 6. Then I called up Pandora. I tend to have a very eclectic music purview and have many stations set up for different moods. From John Williams to Fallout Boy, the sound quality of these headphones was remarkable. There is an amazing depth of sound and incredible highs and lows that make listening to music a truly breathtaking experience.

It’s safe to say that because of my unique professional experiences, I’ve tested out a lot of headphones.

In order to test how voices sounded, and the overall art of sound mixing, I pulled up Netflix on my iPad Air 2 and watched a few minutes of a movie to hear all the nuances of the film. None of them were lost. In fact, I ended up hearing sounds that I hadn’t heard before. Echoes…birds chirping…wind blowing through trees…breathing of the characters…it was very impressive what the headphones ended up bringing out for me.

I would highly recommend these to any sound mixing specialist.

NEW ENVIRON REVIVAL MASQUE

Now, we all know “patience is a virtue” but if you’re anything like me, when it comes to trying out new skincare products you want results NOW!

NEW ENVIRON® REVIVAL MASQUE

Environs’ new REVIVAL MASK is the product that fulfills the needs of impatient skin care obsessives (like myself) – This stuff is magic! It has been like gold dust, with a waiting list for orders. We have managed to get a hold of a couple after a long, long wait!!

The groundbreaking Intensive Revival Masque is the result of four years of research, making it one of the most highly tested cosmetic products on the market.

I have been testing out myself and I reckon it has been well worth the wait!

Here's what Environ have to say about the latest addition to their skincare range:

Environ® Skin Care achieves outstanding results for people who are serious about skin. Formulated by Dr Des Fernandes, a world-renowned plastic surgeon, the range contains a unique combination of active ingredients to protect and nourish. Dr Des Fernandes says:

The story behind why we developed Revival Masque is that this was my first step in the mission I have to make a skin care product that would be like a "Face Lift in a Bottle". I know that this is a preposterous idea, but as a dreamer I decided to pursue it.

 - Dr. Des Fernandes.  Leading aesthetic surgeon and founder of Environ® Skin Care

So, what is this product?

A unique combination of Asiatic, Lactic and Mandelic acids is scientifically proven to lower the skin’s PH. This triggers the release of growth factors that help to rejuvenate and revive skin, leading to a younger, fresher appearance.

Asiatic Acid

Used for centuries in ancient traditional healing, research has shown that it stimulates growth factors that are important for skin regeneration.

Lactic Acid

A powerful promoter of the natural hydrating factors in the skin and is known to lighten uneven skin tone and smooth the skin’s surface

Mandelic Acid

Has powerful anti-ageing, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties and helps to improve the appearance of uneven skin tone.

What are the results?

before-and-afterThis image shows selection of the incredible before and after photos taken during the extensive clinical trials.  All images are genuine and have not been re-touched.

How do you use it?

PROTOCOL:

The potent anti-ageing ingredients in the Intensive Revival Masque mean that it should be introduced gradually.

Start by applying the masque in a thin layer for ten minutes twice a week. If skin is comfortable, progress to 20 minutes three times a week. If skin is still comfortable, leave the product on as an overnight treatment.

Advanced Environ® users can needle with the Cosmetic Roll-CIT for 3-5 minutes before applying the Intensive Revival Masque.

If skin becomes dry or tight, reduce the frequency of use and increase once the transient dry or tight stage subsides.

 Instructions for use:

  • Use for 4-6 months for maximum benefits
  • For best results use in conjunction with Environ® vitamin A creams. Recommended to be used during autumn and winter months, but may be used all year round provided a broad-spectrum sunscreen is applied daily.

MY Weight Loss Challenge!

I have put on a few pounds of late. Christmas has been and gone leaving me with an extra 5lb and a holiday in Spain left me with another 5lb. I want to get back to being a little healthier, I have great focus for a while then I start to feel good about how I look and the focus dwindles, sound familiar? I eat a vegetarian diet, which on the whole is really healthy, but I have started eating more and more of the unhealthy foods like cheese, pizza, chips, crisps and alcohol!! I really need to get myself back on track, so I have devised myself a challenge based on the experience I have had at a Juice Retreat in Spain. I achieved an amazing weight loss whilst at the retreat, (15lb in one week!) I was there for 7 days and I followed the Program strictly, to the letter and I exercised lots!

I want something that is going to give me a great weight reduction and set me on the right path to a healthier lifestyle so here is what I am going to do!

What am I going to do?

I am going to follow a juice diet, juicing all kinds of vegetables, I have kept mine a little bit repetitive to make it easier. I make the juices to about 400ml!

Making the juices a bit annoying, its time consuming and messy! So I make up all of the juices for the day in the morning, and pop these in the fridge to keep fresh!

fitness-smallDrink at least 2 litres of water a day. I always lose track of how much I drink so I add a slice of lemon to my drink bottle every time I fill it up. Then when I empty it out I can see if I have hit my target for the day.

I will be having 3 Colonic Hydrotherapy treatments over a 7 Day period. I am a real fan of colonics, I am convinced that this is the reason I lost so much weight at the retreat! I have juiced and exercised without the colonics and not achieved the same success as when I had them at the retreat!

The exercise part of the challenge is easy for me, I am used to pounding the treadmill at the gym and lifting weights until I am nearly sick, so the two 30 minutes sessions of exercise a day are going to be like a holiday. I have chosen to do a 30 minute brisk walk with hills, and 30 minutes on the rebounder (mini trampoline). I suppose anything that creates a bit of a sweat and gets the heart rate going would be good!

So here goes….

Start Weight 12stone 1.2lb (this was a bit of a shock!)

 A typical day!

 DAY 1

I woke up today with a little bit of a headache, too much to drink at a family baptism on Easter Sunday. I did think for a fleeting second should I start tomorrow instead! But no I am starting today!

8.30am I started my day at with 1 pint of lemon water (1/2 lemon squeezed into a pint of water).

9am Breakfast was a green juice made with avocado, celery, broccoli, lemon, apple, pear and cucumber – sounds awful I know but it is really yummy. I also added a teaspoon of ground flax seed to this to get my health omegas. I was starving and this really did satisfy me

After Breakfast we went for a walk, it was a 2.5 hours walk but at a slow pace as we had the grandchildren with us, I have counted this as one of my exercise sessions for the day!

1.30pm Lunch was a tomato, celery and red pepper juice I also blended a chilli into this to give it a bit of a kick! A bit of a kick this blew my head off, it took me about 30 minutes to drink it (note to self, go easy on the chilli)

4pm I had my first of the three colonics today, this isn’t my first ever colonic, I have had quite a few over the years.

As the afternoon wore in I felt really tired, so I had a power nap about 30 minutes (well it is a bank holiday and I am not in the pub!)

It is really important to listen to your body when you are doing a juice detox! In the beginning you may feel more tired and you should rest if you can.

6pm Dinner – this was a carrot, apple and cinnamon juice, this is the first time I have had this and it was really tasty, maybe a little bit sweet, but I enjoyed it.

7.30 Rebounding for 30 minutes

Throughout the day I drank at least 2 litres of water, I would add a slice of lemon to the bottle each time I filled it up, this allowed me to keep track of the amount I am drinking. This part is really important, it helps to flush out the toxins and rehydrates.

9.30pm Bedtime this is really early for me, I slept right through until 8.30 the next day and I felt really rested when I awoke! As the week went on though I found that I awoke earlier and earlier, it seemed I did not need as much sleep!

Throughout this process it is really important to listen to your body, if you feel hungry have some water, it can be a sign of dehydration. If you have no energy, then rest. If the exercise is too much lower the intensity.

I continued my journey for 7 whole days, the juices were a bit repetitive, but I did switch them up a little by adding spinach, courgette in fact almost anything green to make sure I got loads of nutrients! I put in plenty of lemon to take away the bitterness of some of the veggies. It’s a bit trial and error to start with but once you find juices you like stick with them! Just try not to overdo it with the sweetness, 1 apple or 1 pear or 3 carrots should be the base of your juices with green vegetables being the bulk.

FINISHING WEIGHT 11.4 LB

THAT’S AN AMAZING LOSS OF 11 LB

I must say that I am absolutely over the moon, I feel like I have achieved exactly what I set out to do. Juicing and Colonics, a powerful weight loss combination! Why not book in for your Colonic Hydrotherapy and start your very own weight loss challenge today!

Can I just add that I did this plan with the support of my daughter Chloe, who managed a 5 day detox with 2 Colonics and lost 7lb

My sister Stephanie, who did a 7 day detox, 2 colonics and lost 7lb

Weigh loss results will vary depending on the amount of weight you have to lose and the commitment you have to the program.

Worried about having Colon Hydrotherapy?

If you’ve never had a colonic hydrotherapy treatment before, it might all seem like a bit of a mystery.

Here at Beauty Matters, people come to see us for all sorts of reasons, whether they’re having health problems or just want to try and establish a healthier routine. I always explain to new clients exactly what I’m doing and what they can expect from their treatment.

One new client who came to see me recently was Stephanie from Leeds, who’d never tried colonic hydrotherapy before. She decided to come along and have a treatment as she was constipated and bloated and was looking to lose some weight.

“I felt sluggish and like a needed a good clean out and I’d only heard good things from people who had had this done, I have used Beauty Matters for several years and when Colon Hydrotherapy was introduced it seemed like the obvious choice for my concerns” says Stephanie. “When I came in for the treatment I was a little anxious and didn’t know what was going to happen, but Chloe soon put me at ease. Afterwards, I felt a little tired but the next day I felt a million dollars! I can’t wait to come in for my next one. I have booked a course of 3!

If, like Stephanie you’re nervous about the treatment and what it involves please don’t worry, you can be assured I’m knowledgeable and very professional – but I also pride myself on being friendly and approachable, and I can guarantee the treatment isn’t scary, in fact many people find it relaxing.

For more information about colonic hydrotherapy or to book a complementary consultation, give me a call on 0113 2862222. I’d love to hear from you.
